Montavilla Street Fair 2023 presented by Adventist Health and Mr. Plywood

The 10th Montavilla Street Fair Hits the Streets on July 30 Celebrating Community Resilience and Neighborhood Pride

Montavilla Street Fair presented by Adventist Health Portland and Mr. Plywood will bring 140+ local arts, crafts, food and retail vendors along with community organizations, live music and family activities to Historic Downtown Montavilla on Sunday July 30, 2023.

PORTLAND, OR—The Montavilla/East Tabor Business Association (METBA) is getting set for the 2023 Montavilla Street Fair after last year’s successful return after a two-year hiatus. The family-friendly community celebration (established in 2011) takes place on Sunday, July 30, 2023 in the historic Downtown Montavilla area. This year’s event is made possible by significant support from title sponsors Mr. Plywood and Adventist Health Portland, and a grant from the Portland Office of Events & Film.

Last summer, organizers estimated 12,000 people attended the Montavilla Street Fair making it one of the largest street fairs in all of Portland. Organizers expect 15,000 to attend this year which would match attendance in 2019, which was one of the largest one-day events in East County.

“We’re thrilled to have such a tight-knit community that steps up to make large-scale events like our street fair possible, and the economic impact is significant. Like most, this community has been altered by the pandemic, we lost some key businesses, but there are many more new ones getting established. If you haven’t been to Montavilla in a while, Street Fair is a perfect time to check out what this community has to offer.”

– Neil Mattson, Montavilla East Tabor Business Association (METBA).

Organizers have secured permits from the City of Portland to close down SE Stark Street between SE 76th and SE 82nd Avenues for the 9th Annual Montavilla Street Fair, and anticipate that more than 140 vendors will be present at the event selling food and drink, art, hand crafts, clothing, as well as marketing local products and services. As in previous years, the fair corresponds with the Montavilla Farmers Market, adding an additional layer of fun and activity.

DATE and TIMES: Sunday, July 30, 2023 10AM to 5PM

LOCATION: SE Stark Street between 76th and 82nd Avenues

METBA hosted its first Street Fair in 2011 on a number of side-streets North of SE Stark. In 2014 organizers took a break from putting on the event, which returned in 2015. As METBA’s membership and capacity for large-scale events grew, organizers took on the challenge and cost of closing down Stark Street for the events in 2015 through 2019. In 2020 and 2021 METBA leadership made the decision to pause all events to focus on strengthening the association internally, which led to the successful return of the Montavilla Street Fair in 2022.
